Light Field Anorak 3.0 Description
2019 sees the return of the Light Field Anorak by SORD Australia.
With years of refinement, constant development and end user feedback, the LFA has evolved and adapted into a formidable, highly practical, capable and comfortable field garment worthy of space in nearly anyone’s pack. A classic pullover design means the jacket will provide protection from the elements where a centre zip jacket may have failed. The pockets are extremely practical, capable of storing mission essential items and gear close at hand while being comfortable and streamlined.
The joey hand pocket provides warmth while using a plate carrier, the spacious hood helps keeps the weather out and warmth in, documents and larger items will stow quickly in the centre admin pouch that also acts as a climate control system with mesh backing along with large, easily accessible pit zips.
The Light Field Anorak 3.0 is truly a piece of equipment that you will benefit from taking into the field.
Manufactured from Tweave Durastretch (520E) fabric, the LFA 3.0 boasts non-restrictive movement, high durability and abrasion resistance along with the benefits of a DWR (water repellent) finish. The tight weave of 520E fabric is also effective and will be appreciated on windy days.
LFA 3.0 is a highly adjustable garment with internal elastic shock-cord draw strings at both the waist, lower hem line and parallel to the admin pocket for front width and height adjustment.
Adjustment cords are accessed through the front waist hand warmer pocket. By effectively tensioning these cords, pockets of warm air can be trapped within the garment assisting in basic thermal climate control, easily regulated by the wearer during times of intense activity and static work.
The front through-and-through ‘Joey’ waist pocket is front face lined with soft fleece for additional warmth and comfort on cold days.
The chest area features a single, large front admin pocket. Access is gained via dual, vertically oriented side entry, water repellent zips. Zips open downwards for added security of items stored within. The admin chest pocket is mesh backed allowing and promoting airflow from the chest area when opened. When used in conjunction with the pit zips, the admin pouch greatly assists in regulating heat from within the garment.
In order to assist in minimising fluid transfer through seams during inclement weather, the LFA 3.0 shoulder areas feature an ‘Alpine Cut’ that removes the top edge stitch line and minimises bulk therefore improving comfort with packs and increasing the anoraks capability to keep moisture out. The Alpine Cut has been proven to provide additional comfort with armour and packs along with increasing longevity of the garment by minimising fabric wear points.
A spacious, double layered hood with dual-paracord adjustments is large enough to allow use of Helmets and/or ear protection. The Hood also features a short peak for added weather protection. The ¼ zip design collapses hood opening to the chin without being intrusive with further aperture adjustment obtained by tensioning the twin paracord tabs.
In order to reduce waistline exposure, the rear of the LFA 3.0 features an extended beaver tail design that will better protect the wearer when sitting, arching or bending forwards.
Bellowed bicep area arm pockets are angled forwards slightly for more ergonomic access. Velcro tab lid closure and Velcro hook outer pocket lid and body panels for the attachment of IFF.
Carefully placed elbow reinforcement has been added, constructed with 500 Denier Cordura nylon. These reinforced areas open externally near the wrist to allow the addition of elbow pads (not included).
Wrist cuffs are adjustable by way of Velcro tabs and will accommodate reasonably sided hands, watches and gloves.
All zips are high quality, YKK Waterproof zips.
Comes with zippered storage sack.
Available now in Coyote Brown and Multicam.

Best wet weather kitBy: Eam on 20 April 2021On a whim I bought an XL of the older version about a decade ago. I thought it looked decent and might be useful. I then smashed it. I wore it out field and overseas. Rolled up in its own hood, I'd pull it over the top of BA and belt rig, to sit happily warm and dry while everyone else got drenched in admin areas. Whether it was southern Australia or in the NT, its light and roomy enough to not get overhot up north but also act as an insulating layer when down south. I bought the new version a few years ago and I now have a massive love for smocks. This is the best bit of wet weather kit I own, and I'll keep wearing it and swearing by it until it falls off me and I have to buy a new one.
Initial ImpressionsBy: Kris on 26 April 2019" Light " is a key word. Upon opening the jacket smells a little strange but has the usual awesome SORD quality feel about it, having worn it for a few hours it's a great outer garment with some layering. Would have liked to see the iff velcro 4" x 4" supplied with a cover for when its not needed. The hood is very cosy, and shock cord is nice for adjustment, generously cut sizing. Looking forward to testing it in some inclement weather this wintet
