SORD Australia (ABN 16 111 273 128) ("SORD", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Contact and identity details

Name, email, phone number, and delivery and billing addresses.

Order details

Products purchased, order history, returns and warranty claims.

Delivery details

For Defence deliveries, unit, building and base details you provide.

Account details

If you create an account, your login details and preferences.

Communications

Emails, calls and messages you send us.

Website and device data

IP address, browser type, pages viewed and how you reached our site, collected through cookies and analytics tools.

Marketing preferences

Whether you've subscribed to or unsubscribed from our emails.

We don't store your full credit or debit card details. Payments are processed securely by our payment providers (see Section 8, "Security" below).

How we collect it

We collect most information directly from you when you place an order, create an account, subscribe to emails, contact us or visit our store. We also collect some information automatically when you use our website.

How we use it

  • To prevent fraud and keep our website secure
  • To meet our legal obligations, including tax, accounting and export requirements

  • To send you marketing, where you've agreed or where the law allows

Marketing and advertising

We may send you emails about new products, offers and news. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time by contacting us.

We use Google Ads to show relevant ads. We may securely share your name and email address with Google in a hashed (encrypted) form so we can show ads to existing customers and reach people with similar interests. Google handles this data under its own policies. To opt out, email sales@sordaustralia.com.

Who we share it with

We only share personal information when it's needed for the purposes above, with:

  • Delivery partners such as Australia Post
  • Payment providers (PayPal, Afterpay and Zip)
  • Our online store platform (Neto by Maropost) and IT and hosting providers
  • Email marketing providers, analytics and advertising providers, including Google
  • Professional advisers such as accountants and lawyers
  • SORD USA, where needed to handle US orders or warranty claims
  • Government agencies or law enforcement, where required or authorised by law

We don't sell your personal information.

Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. We take reasonable steps to make sure they protect your information in line with Australian privacy law.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies to make the site work (for example, your shopping cart), remember your preferences, understand how visitors use the site (through Google Analytics) and measure our advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the site may not work properly.

Security

We take all reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, change or disclosure.

Secure connection

Our whole website uses HTTPS with TLS encryption, so information you send us (such as your address and payment details) is encrypted in transit. Look for the padlock in your browser’s address bar.

Card payments

Payments are processed by PayPal, Afterpay and Zip, which meet the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Your card details go straight to the payment provider. We never see or store your full card number.

Our systems

Access to customer information is limited to staff who need it, and our systems are protected by passwords, firewalls, anti-virus software and email filtering. Paper records are stored securely at our premises.

Your account

Use a strong password you don’t use elsewhere and don’t share it. We’ll never ask for your password or full card number by email, phone or text message.

Report a concern

If you receive a suspicious email, text or call claiming to be from SORD Australia, or think your account has been accessed without permission, contact us straight away at sales@sordaustralia.com or (03) 9620 4555.

How long we keep your information

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as required by law, such as tax records. We then delete or de-identify it.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us below. We'll respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first.

Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, please contact our Privacy Officer and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
